Let’s do a Recap

Good Afternoon!

Phew, my life has been quite busy the past few days!  Let’s do a recap, shall we?

Weekend

Friday night Andy and I stayed in and ordered pizza for Pizza Friday.  We ordered from Papa Johns, which I love.  I got the veggie pizza and he made up his own combination with about a million toppings since each large pizza is only $10!  We have left overs for days considering we each only ate 2 slices of our large pizzas.  We were saving our appetites for some Bryers ice cream…which is always worth it!

Cookout

Saturday we had Andy’s family over (his mom and dad and his brother and his wife) for a cookout.  The best part about being back in Ohio is having family near by…you just can’t beat that!  Andy and I were in charge of the burgers and sausages on the grill.  I also made a big fruit salad and some fresh guacamole.

Everyone else brought sides.  Andy’s parents brought a broccoli and apple salad (which was awesome!), some watermelon (Andy’s sister in law is pregnant and has been craving this like crazy!), and a strawberry tart dessert.   Andy’s brother and wife brought some taco dip (which I couldn’t stop eating) and some pasta salad.  We had quite the feast!

Guacamole

Fresh Guacamole:

  • 2 avocados
  • 1 tomato
  • 1/4 onion
  • lots o’ garlic
  • cilantro
  • salt
  • pepper
  • juice of one lime

Directions: blend everything in a food processor until smooth.  I leave the pits in the serving dish to keep the guac from going brown.

Fruit Salad

Fresh Fruit Salad

  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Grapes
  • Cantelope
  • Watermelon

Sausage with peppers and onions

After we feasted we watched the movie “Shutter Island” which I liked. I love supsensful movies!  The ending was not surprising though.

Baby Shower

Sunday I was off to a baby shower for one of my good friends, Megan.  She is the most adorable pregnant woman I know!  You can barely tell she’s pregnant (unless she turns to the side of course haha)

Lindsay, Me, Megan, Morgan

Megan is one of those very tiny girls who is all belly while pregnant.  Her mom looks just like her, so it’s definitely genetic!

My Updates

I started working a new job this week!  I took a job as an Assistant Manager for a Vitamin Shoppe near my house.   I have never worked in retail before, so it’s completely new to me.  It’s actually exciting to be doing something different, yet still being surrounded by health and wellness as I sell supplements (vitamins, minerals, protein powders, herbs, bars, etc) plus pet health products as well as natural/organic health and beauty aides.    We have over 9,000 products in the store, which is completely overwhelming, but I am ready to learn!

The downside to my job are the hours.  I have to work some weekends and I work 2 closing shifts per week (we close at 9pm).  Other than that, it’s a great gig and I am on the ‘fast track’ to becoming the store manager, which is really exciting.   Today I have the day off, which is nice!  The plus side is that it’s less than 10 miles from my house, which is great.  I’m just really happy to have an imcome right now, considering the shape our economy is in.

I’m still searching for a new gym and I am trying out a local Fitworks this week (I have a 7-day free trial pass).  The gym is just OK, it has all the basics but I am not “wowed” by any means.   I’d also like to find a place to work as a group exercise instructor or a sub, since I am certified.    I’ve had steady workouts over the past week, which is nice!  Today I did a spinning class that also included weight training for half of it.  I enjoyed it a lot, it was challenging!

Food Pics

I am off to Trader Joes (another great plus being back in a Ohio!) I’ll leave you with some food pics from the past few days

Cupcake from the baby shower

Today's Lunch: Leftover cookout food: chicken sausage, broccoli and apple salad, pasta salad

Breakfast: Kashi go lean crunch + kix + strawberries + blueberries + almond milk

Snack: whole wheat tortilla, melted string cheese, tomato slices

Tomato + Cheese Quesadilla snack

Hope you all had great weekends and have a great rest of your Tuesday! 🙂

Questions:

What is your favorite food to eat at a cookout?  Mine would have to be all the sides, like potato salad!

What do you look for when joining a gym?

  1. I always hear conflicting reports of if leaving the pits in guac actually works or not? Usually mine doesn’t last long enough to find out… :p

Congrats on the new gig! Retail can be exhausting, but there are perks of it, too. Good luck!

  2. Wow you’re a busy lady! I agree with you on being close to family. Hard to beat that. I am with you on the sides at cookouts too. That’s my downfall! Congrats on the job.

  3. I love corn at cookouts…but then again I love corn about ANY time..the other day we did some with cilantro/lime butter…*drools*

I’m not currently a gym-goer..but when I DID go..I always liked going where there were TONS of machines. I went to one once that there were only TWO ellipticals in the whole place, so it was like a race to get to one,and then if you stayed on too long people stared..boo!

  4. Congratulations on the JOB!!! Exciting! Woo hoo!!!

    Great pictures, by the way…yum!

We call ’em BBQ’s down here…and I would say my favorite food is grilled asparagus…and maybe the texas toast 😉 haha.

In a gym, I look for cleanliness, knowledgable staff, dumbbells(not just machines), a squat rack (sounds strange, but some of the 24/7 places here don’t have them), up-to-date cardio equipment, showers, group exercise classes.

  5. Congrats on the new job!! Retail is pretty fun, each day is def. Different!!

I love cookouts, My Favorite food to eat would be Veggies on the grill, any of them are my all time favorite.. As far as looking for a new gym, when I was searching I looked for bright, cleanliness, a variety of machines, and a gym that offered classes as well as training (if I so desired!).. Quite a list I guess, but I Know what I like!!

I’ve just recently stumbled across your blog, I love it!! You have some GREAT recipes!!

  6. You’re going to do great at Vitamin World! I can only imagine being close to Trader Joes again. If I ever move back to Atlata..I’m going to live in the parking lot!

  7. something about that breakfast with the cereal and puffs and strawberries is really making me hungry right now!

haha its so funny cuz a lot of women ive talked to said they craved watermelon when they were pregnant.. and actually they had girls when i think of it.. hmm interesting!

fav cookout foods is always corn on the cob, fruit salads, potato salads, bean salads, and burgers ❤

  8. Welcome back 😉

Yay for being close to a TJs once again!

I always like the apps at a cookout: cheese, crackers, olives, vino, fruit, etc!

  9. Congrats on the new job!! Sounds like a good gig and being a store manager is even better! Glad you’re back. I missed your interesting posts!

  10. That little cupcake is so adorable! And I agree, I like the sides at cookouts too. I really like putting baked beans over grilled chicken. Congrats on the job!!

  11. Looks like you’re adjusting quite well! And congrats on the new job!
Ahhh cookouts – how do you even pick? I love it ALL – pasta salad & broccoli salad are a couple of my top picks 🙂

  12. Wowzers you have been busy!!! 🙂 My favorite food to eat at a cookout is baked beans…so good!

  13. Up-to-date cardio equipment is a must! And I can’t stand if I gym is all weights with no air conditioning – this is NC, fans are not sufficient.

But I also like group fitness classes. I’ve chosen to stay at the local Y instead of moving to a closer/cheaper gym just because of the classes. Oh, and I feel safe at the Y.

  14. I love all the sides at a cookout too. Especially the fruit. I was so mad there was no melon, grapes, or berries this week at my grocery store. They are remodeling and it is driving me crazy because they only had half the produce out. I will NOT be shopping there next time.

Glad you had a good weekend. And congrats on the job! It sounds like a good fit for you if you couldn’t find something in the universities.

    • I”m still up for the university job, it’s just a very slow process…I just can’t wait that long without an income. I”ll let you know if the job status changes!

  15. Congrats on the new job! It seems like you would learn a lot working at a store like that.
When I join a gym, I make sure they have the type of elliptical I like (precor) – I know, so random. Other pluses are not too crowded, enough treadmills, a decent size lifting area (and one that isn’t dominated by men, a separate one for women is definitely a plus!) and if I’m lucky some good yoga/pilates/spinning classes : )

  16. that cereal at the bottom makes my heart flutter!

  17. hey linds!

congrats on the new job! .. and yay for TJ’s being close again! 🙂

fave bbq food would have to be the grilled veggies or fruit salads..not only cuz they’re healthy but i seriously look forward to them! lol oh and drinks of course 😉

  18. That’s SO smart to leave the pit in!! That never even occurred to me 🙂

    Thanks for the tip!

  19. Congratulations on the job! I think that it would be very interesting to work for a vitamin company. Maybe it would encourage me to take my daily vitamin more often! 🙂
