A Reflection on Food Blogging

After almost a week of trying to blog all of my meals and snacks, I’ve come to a conclusion:  I just don’t like it! And here’s why:

Food blogging is time consuming.

Some of my favorite blogs snap a picture of every meal and I love to read them.  But some of these bloggers are doing this for their job.  I am not. I already work full time AND blog.  So I found that my motivation really lacked as my blog became more a job than just for fun (which is what it is!)

I had thoughts of changing what it is I truly wanted to eat

I really do eat a lot of the same meals and for one reason: I enjoy it! I had pizza 4 days in a row this past week!  That’s kind of crazy, but it’s what happens when you drink a margarita and then order pizza.  I had so many leftovers! I don’t waste food and certainly not a perfectly delicious pizza.  So I wanted to eat it 4 days in a row.  And I did.

But after work last night I thought about concocting something else to eat simply to have something better to blog about.  But I realized that I wanted to eat the pizza and didn’t want to cook and doing something only for the blog is silly.  It’s my LIFE not a SHOW! I can eat what I want.

I’m Lazy

Yes, I am lazy and didn’t enjoy busting out my camera anytime I ate something.  Last night I just gave up.  I snapped a picture of my pizza for dinner but then went on to eat a bowl of cereal and a couple of handfuls of M&Ms.  I was lazy to take a picture of that.  I just didn’t feel like it.  Now I know, I don’t have to take pictures of everything, but it made me realize that I won’t be that kind of blogger: One who literally snaps a picture of every morsel of food.  It’s not my style.

I’ve gotta be ME

Whether that be at a fun, happening restaurant with interesting food and drinks:

Or in my Pizza Friday Uniform with a homemade Margarita for one:

Also swanky 😉

Some bloggers make food blogging seem so effortless and that in itself is a skill because even with the little food blogging I did, it took some work. So those bloggers whose blogs have amazing pictures of their meals are working extra hard!

Like I said, I love blogs who showcase their meals when it’s truly their style of blogging.  For me, it’s not.  I’m glad I tried to challenge myself, but it further confirms the fact that I am just not cut out for food blogging.  I gotta be me and my blog is more than food. It’s all aspects of health, which is more my style.

In conclusion you’ll still see some food blogging, but not every day.  And if there is anything you want to know about my meals or anything in general on this blog you can always ask! I’d be happy to answer 🙂

Do you blog about every meal you eat?

  1. Ditto to this. Blogging all my food is soooo not my style. I know I would end up changing up what want to eat for the sake of the blog if I tried to do it that way.

  2. I don’t post every meal I eat- for a lot of the reasons you said. My meals are boring most of the time (I’m on a college campus), and I know it can only lead to the comparison game for others (and me), which I’m trying to avoid!

  3. Not EVERY meal but most. I dont use a fancy camera, just my cell phone.

  4. When I was blogging, I didn’t care to blog about food…And I skim over foods in blog posts 😉

  5. Nope just can’t do it. Meals here and there but that’s it.

  6. i totally agree with you! i find it so hard to keep 2 blogs running and work full time and look after the house and squeeze in a workout! phew! exhausting just writing it!

  7. I totally agree! I gave up too! It’s just too much work & then it got to feeling more like a JOB, not something that I liked to do. That’s why I just write maybe ONE recipe a day & then just discuss whatever else is on my mind. I like it better that way 🙂

  8. totally understand your thoughts on food blogging. totally time consuming but everyone is different! i like your blog the way it is!

  9. I eat the same things too. I am a creature of habit. Also, if I like what I am eating I can eat it all of the time. I know readers would get bored, but also, I don’t want to lug a camera around and take a picture of everything I eat! It is not my thing!

  10. No way! My breakfasts’ and lunches are usually verrrrrrry boring and repetitive and since I (like you) work a full time job, I’m not about to waste precious minutes of the day documenting food that really isn’t worthy – well it’s worthy enough to eat. 🙂
I don’t even blog about every dinner. I like the keep the blog fun and I always try to remember why I even started the blog to begin with when I feel that I’m not a savy blogger.

  11. I try to blog about most of my meals, but never take pictures of everything I eat. I am usually so hungry that I don’t think abou taking pics until the food is gone!

  12. I am with you girl! I cannot do that either.

Be you and blog how you like, it is your space 🙂

  13. NO WAY! i dont see how people can do it day to day! it takes so much time! and im lazy haha

OMG I love yoru hair color in the pic of you holding the wine! it is GEORGEOUS!!!!!!

  14. You just have to do what is best for you. There are some days where I blog all my meals and then other days I will talk about something else. I try to keep my blog interesting. But if it gets to be more than a job, then you have to do something else. Blogging is supposed to be fun.
