Healthy Food Awards

Something about a man cooking dinner is so attractive…luckily I’m dating a guy that cooks! 😉

Last night Andy cooked up his secret recipe chicken (that I will find out!):

Along side the chicken Andy cooked up some rice and veggies to round out our delicious dinner:

This chicken was so good that I had to go back for seconds.  I went to bed with a full (and happy!) belly. Tonight I am on dinner duty which means another lazy dinner!  We’re  having Taco Tuesday.

Healthy Food Awards

On my 30-minute lunch break at work I sometimes chill out with a magazine while eating. I happened to pick up the latest Fitness Magazine and spotted the Healthy Food Awards.  It’s an annual article where they discuss different types of foods that they have tested.  This article talked about the healthiest Snack Items (You can see them all here).

Today I thought I would do my own addition of my favorite healthy snack foods since I am an avid snack lover! I listed my top two favorite snack item in each category.  Here we go!

Call me crazy but I don’t like juice or other types of drinks other than water or plain iced tea.  So instead I’ll list my top two summer alcoholic beverages, which I always adore 🙂

  • Cosmo: Sweet, yet has that nice bite!
  • Bud Light Lime: These are especially good on the beach!

Healthy Snacks

Woohoo it’s Friday!! In about 5 hours I will be eating pizza and catching up on the last night’s episode of the Real Housewives of NYC.  Such an exciting life I lead, I know! But it is Pizza Friday after all 🙂

Andy is out of town on a guy’s trip this weekend so me and the dogs are home alone.  I miss him already, but I’m glad he’s out enjoying some guy time and having fun.  I on the other hand will enjoy some relaxation this weekend because I don’t have any big plans.  I actually enjoy weekends like these and often crave them.  I need alone time and a free schedule.  I feel refreshed by the time Monday roles around.

Healthy Snacks

While preparing my lunch today of left over ravioli from earlier in the week, I made sure to pack a healthy afternoon snack to have at work.

On Fridays I work the closing shift, so I am here until 7:30pm.  I eat lunch on my late days at 2pm, since I don’t come in until 11:00am.  By 5:30pm, I’m ready for an evening pick-me-up in the form of a healthy snack.

Today’s snack of choice has been a favorite of mine for some time: Yogurt + Fruit + Peanut Butter.  You can’t go wrong with this winning combo!

Snack Attack

The Chocolate Oikos Greek Yogurt is pretty amazing.  The caramel flavor is even better if you’re looking for a delicious treat.

While packing my lunch, I had to get a quick taste of the peanut butter…

Peanut butter is probably one of the best foods in the world. Yep, I think it’s that good. Peanut butter is my buddy 😉

Some other snacks I enjoy taking to work or on the go are:

  • Whole wheat tortilla roll up with nut butter
  • Whole wheat tortilla + string cheese melted into a quesadilla
  • Lara Bars or other snack bars
  • Protein Shake (I prefer one without artificial sweeteners) + a piece of fruit and a handful of nuts
  • Greek Yogurt + Berries + Almonds
  • Greek Yogurt + Cereal + Peanut Butter

Basically, I like to include a bit of protein, some carbs, and healthy fat.  I find that having all of those components keeps me satisfied until my next meal.

While packing up my lunch and snack for the day, I spent some time spying on the dogs in the back yard.  I was like a Peeping Tom…how creepy!

What I eat for a Week Day 1: Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks

Today starts my blog series What I Eat for a Week!  I’m going to try my best to capture each meal and snack that I eat for a week.  It’s going to be a challenge as I don’t always take my camera with me, but I’m up for it!


Today I woke up at 8am.  I don’t work until 11am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so I get to sleep in a bit.  Tuesdays and Thursdays I am up at 6am.

After I woke up I put some coffee on, fed the dogs and got ready for the day.  I also packed my lunch and snacks for the day and sat down for some breakfast while watching Regis and Kelly.

Today’s breakfast included:

  • Three different kinds of cereal (I’m the cereal mixing queen!)
  • 1% milk
  • 1 banana
  • blueberries
  • Coffee with low fat half and half

This bowl of cereal holds me over until lunch time, which is 2pm on my late work days.


For lunch I packed some leftover breaded chicken that Andy had made Monday night.  I added some pearl barley that I had in the fridge for some added nutrients and fiber.  I plan on topping the chicken with some homemade salsa I made on Sunday.

Chicken + Barley

The salsa was made with:

  • 1 green pepper
  • 1/2 onion
  • 3 tomatoes
  • lots of garlic
  • salt and pepper
  • cilantro

I blended everything in a food processor.  I love homemade salsa!  It’s a great topper for chicken and of course is great with tortilla chips!


When I pack my lunch I also pack some snacks.  I don’t always eat them all, but I like to pack variety so that I can pick and choose during the day.

Today I packed:

  • 1 orange
  • Greek yogurt
  • String cheese + tortilla to make a quesadilla
  • Slice of zucchini bread I made on Sunday (recipe from here)

Before I went to work, I made sure to spend some quality time with the dogs.  Today we played in the back yard in the snow.  Lately they’ve been obsessed with their boomerang toy:
