Star of the Morning

I had big plans to accomplish a lot on my “to do” list yesterday, but didn’t really get much done! I spent a little too much time reading blogs, writing a blog post, and ultimately watching too much TV.  Oh well, it was a Sunday.  Sometimes ya just gotta relax!

Sunday Recap

One thing on both Andy and I’s “to do” list was attending a friend’s BBQ.  We spent a few hours chatting and catching up with friends, eating and drinking while enjoying the nice weather. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

We got home around 7PM and just in time for a new episode of Jersey Shore! I have been forcing Andy to watch it with me, and bless his heart he does. He doesn’t understand why I am interested in half the shows I watch.  I don’t know why I am either, but ultimately I feel relaxed watching mindless reality TV.  I guess it’s only fair that I watch a Cleveland Brown’s Football game with Andy this season!

After Jersey Shore we watched the MTV VMA show.  I really enjoyed what I saw (I fell asleep at 10:30) and appreciated Lady Gaga cross-dressing for the evening.  I swear, she keeps everyone guessing! I was not expecting that.  The girl has some serious pipes and a world of talent, so I enjoyed it! But I enjoy anything she does really, I’m a huge fan.

Monday

I awoke today feeling completely refreshed. I slept like a rock! Nothing beats a good night’s sleep.  I can eat as clean as I want and exercise an hour a day, but if I don’t get enough sleep, I feel like crap.

To start the morning off, I took these two hyenas for their morning rabbit hunt walk:

I refuse to look at you after calling me a hyena

It was a nice morning, the weather has been just beautiful lately.  The temperatures have been in the mid 70s and just so pleasant! I’ll take it while I can before it turns into a Winter Wonderland around here!

The pups and I walked for about 25 minutes around the neighborhood, then they played in the fenced-in back yard for a while.

Having a fenced in yard has been amazing.  When I lived in Georgia I didn’t have one and I had to constantly leash them up.  Now they are free to roam and play!

Whenever Andy and I decide to buy a home or have to move again, a fenced yard will be a must-have!

Unless you have steak in your hands, we ain't coming!

Breakfast

After playing with the pups for a bit I headed in to make breakfast.  Cereal and coffee were on today’s menu!

Fresh strawberries that I got at Whole Foods Saturday were the Star of the Morning.  They were so sweet and delicious.

Strawberries are definitely my favorite fruit.  I never get sick of them. I seem to get sick of other fruits, such as bananas and apples, after so many days of eating them.  But I could probably eat strawberries multiple times per day.  In fact, I am having them again tonight as part of my evening snack!

Workout

Today’s workouts were the two classes I taught today: Step, Jump and Pump and Cardio Pilates (read more about the classes I teach here!).  Since I teach two classes on Monday’s and Wednesdays, I don’t do anything extra besides walk. I get plenty exercise from the classes.

In today’s Cardio Pilates class I decided to take the class outside for The Hill Workout.  It was perfect weather for it and we all worked up a sweat climbing up that sucker!

After about 30 minutes of being outside walking/jogging, we took it back inside for the Pilates portion. I included one of my favorite exercises in today’s sequence: The Rotating Side Plank

Start in a push up position:

Do a push up:

Rotate into a side plank, stacking your hand directly under the shoulder and stacking your hips on top of one another.  Hold for a couple seconds.

Do another push up then rotate to the other side:

Repeat for as many as you desire.  Today we did 10 total push ups (5 side planks on each side).  These are tough, but fun! 🙂

Have a great night everyone!

Questions:

Did you watch the MTV VMA show? Who was your favorite performer? I didn’t see all of them, but I enjoyed Lady Gaga’s (I love the song “You and I”!) and Chris Brown did really well too.  He’s got some serious dance moves! And Adele is seriously amazing!

What is your favorite fruit? Strawberries for me!

His and Her Dinners

My lack of sleep from the bad storm and my 5AM wake up call yesterday finally caught up with me by the time I got home from work.  I was exhausted! I grabbed my pillow and blanket and headed straight for the couch to relax.

Andy had the same idea when he got home a couple of hours later and soon he was fast asleep on the couch while I watched the finale of the Real World Challenge (And yes, I realize I watch the same shows as high school age kids)

I didn’t want to wake Andy up from his nap, so I headed in the kitchen to make myself breakfast for dinner.  I knew that Andy had wanted to use up some ground beef, so I figured we’d just have our own “His and Her” dinners tonight.

On my menu for the night: Waffles n’ Eggs!

I chopped up a tomato to fill in my omelet, which consisted of 1 whole egg and two whites plus a splash of milk.  Shredded cheese was also added to complete my omelet.

Dinner came together in a flash and it was oh-so-good! I love this combination!  Plus I love waffles topped with real maple syrup.

There was a time in my life when I tried to eat everything sugar free and get as few calories as possible from foods like syrup or creamer.  Long gone are those crazy days!  Bring on the real food! And what’s funny is that I used to eat enormous servings of the sugar free stuff and now that I eat the real thing, I only need a little bit to get all of that wonderful flavor.

Man Food

Andy finally woke up after 2 hours of napping and was ready for some dinner. So he headed out to make some serious man food on the grill: Burgers!

Boo and Sophia were doing some serious begging for his burger (even after I gave them egg yolks…I guess a burger is more enticing!)

Let's make a deal...You can have some of my dry, I mean delicious, dog food and I'll have one of your juicy burgers...

For God's sake, drop something!

The rest of the evening was spent reading in bed. I’m currently reading The Help, which is such a great read so far! I wanted to read it before I saw the movie that is out.

Morning Run

I awoke today feeling well rested (finally!) and decided to take Boo and Sophia on a quick 2-mile run.  It was a great way to start the morning!

When we got back I attempted to take a picture with the dogs…

The pictures didn’t turn out so well…(although the overgrown weeds sure look pretty!)

This one was as good as it was going to get…

These two  were just more interested in cooling off on the patio instead…

Life is so hard

The rest of the morning was spent eating breakfast (Shredded Wheat and Peanut Butter Puffins cereal with strawberries and soy milk) and catching some of the Today Show before packing my lunch and heading off to work.

Almond Butter and Tomato Sandwich

I was inspired by Kelly when I made my lunch for work this morning.  The other day she talked about one of her favorite sandwiches: Peanut Butter and Tomato! This intrigued me, so I decided to try it.

I sliced up the tomato and seasoned it with salt and pepper:

I then topped two slices of bread with Almond Butter before packing it up in my lunch bag.

I packed the tomato and almond butter sandwich separately and then assembled it at work while on my lunch break.

I loved this sandwich and I think the salt and pepper on the tomato really adds such great flavor.  I’ll be making this combination again!

Gossip Friday

While sitting outside for my lunch break, I caught up with the latest US Weekly.

Fridays have become “Gossip Friday” for me since that is when the new magazine comes out.  I’ll admit, I enjoy reading celebrity gossip and just mindlessly flipping through the pages looking at the pictures.  It makes for a very relaxing lunch break too!

Have a great Friday everyone!

Question:

What are some of your favorite magazines to read?

It's Not a Wedding Without a Line Dance

This weekend sure flew by! It seemed as if I was always on the go.  I definitely enjoy weekends like these because I feel so accomplished.  But I also really love my lazy weekends and so far not much is on the agenda for next weekend. I hope my couch is ready for me because I have some serious reality TV to catch up on 😉

Saturday

To start my busy weekend off I headed to a free Yoga class at Puma Yoga Studio in Lakewood, Ohio.

I had never been to this studio before and I was excited to give it a try.  My boss recommend I go since they were having free classes on Saturday.  I can’t pass up a free class!

I’m glad I didn’t pass up the free class because it was a good one.  The class was called Rise and Shine since it was at 7:30AM. I prefer doing Yoga early in the morning when I have not had anything to eat.  My stomach definitely appreciates it too 😉

The class was a nice blend of flowing poses, holding poses, and deep breathing and relaxation.  I would definitely recommend this studio to anyone in the Cleveland area. It had a great atmosphere and the staff working were very friendly and helpful. Plus their prices for classes when not free seem pretty reasonable.

After Yoga I hit up a local Starbucks to get myself a hot coffee and to surprise Andy with one of his favorite treats: a Mocha Frappucinno (also scoring some major girlfriend points if I do say so myself!)

A Yoga class and a Starbucks coffee was a great way to spend a Saturday morning!

Wedding

Saturday night we had yet another wedding to attend.  This makes it three for the summer. But I’m certainly not complaining.  What’s not to love about busting some serious moves on the dance floor, eating great food, and boozing my face off? Nothing!!

Andy’s family friend was getting married to his long-time girlfriend.  Andy’s parents, brother Joe, and sister-in-law Lindsay were also attending so I was looking forward to spending time with everyone.

The wedding and reception were both held at the same place, a local Hilton Hotel.  In fact, all three of the weddings I attending this summer (See Kelly’s here and Sam’s here) were also this way.  I really liked not having to travel from place to place.  Super convenient, especially for out of town guests.

The wedding ceremony was short, sweet, and beautiful.  We had a cocktail hour shortly after where we munched on cheese, crackers, fruit, bruschetta, and mini egg rolls.

We also spent a lot of time at the bar…Naturally 😉

The families of the bride and groom sure like to party…there was a great assortment of beer, wine, and tons of liquor.

Our Table

The dinner was served buffet style and there was an array of options including chicken, salmon, some kind of red meat (which I don’t eat so I didn’t really take a good look!), mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, salad, and rolls.  It was all pretty good but I especially loved the salad since there was fresh parmesan cheese available to top it with. Yum!

The wedding cake was amaretto flavored which I’m not a huge fan of so I only had a bite.  However, it was certainly a beautifully decorated cake!

The rest of the night was spent out on the dance floor where I showed off my line dancing skills busting out the “Cupid Shuffle” and “The Booty Call”.  It wouldn’t be a wedding without those line dances! 🙂

Sunday

Andy I woke up late on Sunday and made a hangover special breakfast:

  • Cheesy eggs
  • Home Fries
  • English Muffin with butter
  • Extra grease for the headache

After breakfast we had to get ready to attend my friend Megan’s baby’s first birthday party. Andy was not wanting to get up:

But too bad, I made him come along with me.  We ended up having a nice day out visiting with friends and celebrating little Lena’s 1st birthday.

Megan and her husband Dan provided a wonderful assortment of food and goodies to eat:

There were sandwiches, potato salad, chicken wings, chicken sausage, chips and dip, and my favorite: cake pops! I ate three of those little suckers.  They are delicious (and highly addicting!)

While the adults ate lunch miss Lena had a blast eating her birthday cupcake

And then shoving it into her uncle’s eye:

What an angel 🙂

But after all the gift opening and excitement, this little one was ready for nap time:

Lena and Mom

That was our cue to go so we said goodbye to everyone and headed out to run some Sunday errands.

Dress Up

After running errands Andy and I vegged on the couch and ate some leftover pizza (from Pizza Friday) for dinner.  Then we decided it was time to dress up Boo and Sophia in this crazy bow tie:

Boo the Circus Clown

Sophia’s turn was next:

I kinda hate you right now

If I dance this thing comes off....got it?

Andy and I are easily amused (or getting really lame!)

This better not be on the blog

I hope you all had a great weekend!!

Question of the Day:

What is your favorite kind of cake? I’m a cheesecake kind of girl!

Question of the Day:

What is your favorite kind of cake? I’m a cheesecake kind of girl!

Blizzards for a Cause

Apparently I can’t get enough of interval workouts because yesterday on my lunch break I tackled yet another one.   This one was brutal and I wanted to yell obscenities much like I wanted to while completing this interval workout last week.

I used this deadly interval combination to come up with another rendition. I call this one: Intervals of Death Part II.

To be honest, I originally planned to do another incline running interval at minute 25  (5.5mph at 10%) and complete a full two minute interval for minute 19, but I completely ran out of steam! So the above  workout is what I actually did, not planned.  Regardless, it was a tough cardio workout!

Waffles n’ Eggs

Since coming back from San Diego our refrigerator and pantry is pretty empty. Luckily I can always count on enjoying breakfast for dinner on nights like these!

For dinner last night I made Waffles n’ Eggs.  It’s such a delicious combination.  I love the savory (eggs) with the sweet (waffles and syrup) mixed together in one meal.

I topped two waffles with real maple syrup:

On the side I made an omelet with one whole egg + two egg whites and a splash of soy milk. I filled the omelet with chopped onion and tomato and topped with a shredded Mexican blend cheese.

I love breakfast for dinner!

Whenever I am cooking eggs (or anything really) I can always count on these two for company:

I hope this woman drops something

Don't you ever share?

Lucky for them I do in fact share and gave them each an egg yolk.  Andy often asks if he can have the extra yolks but I always give them to Boo and Sophia. Sorry! 😉

Blizzards for a Cause

While I was driving home from work yesterday I heard a radio commercial mention that the local Cleveland Dairy Queens were giving the proceeds from blizzards sold on Thursday to the Children’s Miracle Network.  I thought it was the perfect opportunity to make a charitable contribution (and not to mention give me a reason to eat my second blizzard of the week.  Moderation is not my thing apparently)

Andy was feeling extra charitable and bought us both medium blizzards.  And they were beyond delicious as usual.

In my mix: Reese cups and Oreo.  Try it, it’s a winning combination! Andy gets a Turtle Pecan Cluster which is a close second to mine 😉

Now I just need the local pizza restaurants to start giving some of their proceeds to charity.  It’s Pizza Friday after all!

Weekend Plans

Tomorrow I am planning to attend an early Yoga class that’s being offered for free. I love taking Yoga classes and I don’t get to take them that often so I’m excited to go.

We also have another wedding Saturday night for one of Andy’s family friends.  Another excuse to drink way too much and act a fool on the dance floor.  Can’t wait 🙂

Have a great weekend everyone!

Question:

What’s your favorite Blizzard, ice cream or frozen yogurt combination?

Giant Breadsticks

On Andy’s way back from Michigan yesterday for his guy’s trip he made a pit stop at one of our all-time favorite places: Campus Pollyeyes.

Campus Pollyeyes is a pizza place Andy and I would often go to during our time in college at BGSU.  Lucky for us, it was just a short walk from both our houses and made for the perfect hangover meal 😉

Since Bowling Green, Ohio is close to Michigan, Andy was nice enough to pick up a large box of chicken, cheese and onion bread sticks at our old stomping ground in BGSU.

Source

But these are no ordinary bread sticks.  They are giant stuffed bread sticks! Literally, they’re the size of my head:

One breadstick is enough…but two is even better.  I enjoyed these babies as my dinner dipped in Pollyeyes’ homemade ranch dressing.  Healthy? no.  A small piece of Heaven? Yes 🙂

Giant Stuffed Bread sticks

Since Andy spent his day traveling he was exhausted, so we called it an early night and were in bed by 9:30pm.  I was exhausted from my weekend of shopping (hello, drama!) and the many naps I took.  It’s a tough life I lead, I know 😉

But before we could fall asleep Boo and Sophia had to have a quick wrestling match on our bed.  How convenient!

Sophia, come and get me!

Sophia didn’t seem to interested at first, but after all the crap Boo was talking, she quickly got her game face on:

Those are fighting words, Boo!

They spent a good 10 minutes barking at one another and wrestling around:

Then they called a truce and were best buds again:

All in a day’s work for Boo and Sophia!

Monday: Back to the Grind

I woke up feeling refreshed from a weekend of relaxation (plus I took Saturday and Sunday as rest days from working out).  I decided to take Boo and Sophia on a quick 2-mile jog around the neighborhood before breakfast.  The weather was a cool 62 degrees and sunny.  It was just about perfect!

I made another delicious bowl of cereal to eat and now I am sipping my coffee about to get ready to go to work.  It’s Monday and it’s back to the grind!

Monday's Breakfast

Time to get my booty in gear and head off to work for the day! Have a great Monday!

Question:

Do you have any favorite college or hometown restaurants that you have to get when you are in for a visit?

Shopping Drama

The weekend is finally here.  I sometimes feel as though I live for my weekends.  The days where I can truly do exactly what I want to do.  Although I do enjoy working, there are certainly days where I am longing for the weekend!  Last week felt like one of those weeks.  I couldn’t wait to just wake up when I wanted and do whatever it is I felt like doing.

Today, I decided to browse at TJ Maxx and get my grocery shopping done at Whole Foods.  Before shopping, I fueled up with some cereal

In the mix:

  • 365 Brand Shredded Wheat
  • 365 Brand Peanut Butter Pows
  • Unsweetened Soy Milk
  • Blueberries

To drink, I had coffee with half and half:

This was a winning combination.  I love breakfast! 🙂

At TJ Maxx I was on the hunt for a dress to wear to a wedding and some workout tank tops.

Hello from the dressing room!

I tried on this workout tank, that I ended up buying it in pink and black since they were only $7.99 and fit great.

Since I mainly live in workout attire, these two tanks were a good investment! I’d say 95% of my week is spent in some form of spandex!

Next I tried on this cute Calvin Klein one shoulder dress for $39.99:

I decided not to get it today, but now looking at it again I kind of like it more…what do you think of it?

Shopping Drama:

While I was browsing through a section of dresses, I noticed a girl standing very close to me who seemed annoyed.  She was about my age, or perhaps a few years younger, but I’d guess in her 20s. I continued to browse, even holding up dresses to my body to check the length.  Finally the girl says, “Can you, like, move?”

I was a bit surprised at the rude tone in her voice, and politely said back, “I’m sorry, but I am looking at these right now”.

She stomps away and begins talking to her mother right behind me practically shouting so everyone around her can hear, “That girl is so rude! I wanted to look right there and she wouldn’t move! I hate people like her!”

After hearing that, I was livid.  I was honestly fuming and could feel my blood boil.  I couldn’t believe that because I was minding my own business looking at a small section of dresses (there was the entire row left and of the same size with no one else looking…plenty of room!) and now I was rude and should be hated.

Now, anyone who knows me in person knows that I am a non-confrontational person. I pretty much let things slide.  But this time I couldn’t.  I turned around, looked at the girl and pretty much told her she was a spoiled brat and that just because I wouldn’t move when she needed me to that she was the one who was rude.  I’m pretty sure we learn to ‘wait our turn’ in pre-school.

Her mom actually agreed with me and told her daughter that she didn’t own the store and couldn’t order people around.

Ugh..it was just annoying and I couldn’t believe someone would act like that in public and feel so entitled.

I got over it and continued shopping, but it was definitely an experience I probably won’t forget! So much for a calm and relaxing shopping trip!

By the time I left TJ Maxx, I was starving. Along with my usual groceries and staples for the week I picked up some of Whole Food’s chicken salad and guacamole to have for lunch.

I put together a platter of food along with some Sour Cream Pop Chips. The chicken salad was just OK, but their guacamole is pretty amazing.  It’s so fresh and there are lots of large chunks of avocado. I’ll definitely buy it again.

After lunch I was ready for a nap!  I slept for a good hour, which felt nice.  Now I’m getting ready to meet Andy’s parents and sister-in-law (and baby Claire!) for dinner at Red Robin.  Have a great night!

Question:

How would you have handled the shopping drama?
