$0.25 Dairy Queen Blizzards

In honor of Dairy Queen’s 25th birthday (wow, I’m as old as the blizzard!), my boyfriend Andy and I hit up a local DQ for the birthday blizzard special they had: buy one blizzard and get another one for $0.25!  Score!

Happy Birthday DQ! Glad I could celebrate this wonderful occasion with you! 🙂

That was our lunch yesterday as I drove him to the Atlanta Airport for his flight back to Ohio.  I enjoyed an oreo blizzard with reese cups added and he had the pecan cluster blizzard.  Mine was absolutely perfect and we both polished off our blizzards with no problem! I love getting ice cream for lunch 🙂

Weekend Recap

As I mentioned, my boyfriend Andy lives in Ohio and I live in Georgia for my job.  I am relocating back to Ohio at the end of June, so for now we do the long distance thing.

Andy came in on Friday evening around 7:45pm to Atlanta.  We got a hotel for the evening since it’s a 2.5 hour drive back to my place.   We got dinner at a local place that is known for their gyros.  I don’t eat lamb meat, so I opted for the chicken gyro, while Andy got the traditional gyro.

It was DELICIOUS! They came with a side of wedged potatoes with a great sauce.  Definitely hit the spot! I forgot to snap pics, but trust me, it was great! It was one of those hole in the wall restaurants that look terrifying, but the food is just amazing.

We relaxed the rest of the evening and enjoyed a couple of beers back in our room while watching TV.   I’m really looking forward to doing this every week once I am back in Ohio!

Saturday was much of the same! More relaxing and movie watching.  The weather was rainy, so it was a great day to do nothing!  We munched on some chips, salsa, and guacamole that I made. I also whipped up some margaritas, which I love.  We really didn’t ever eat a real meal on Saturday, just snacked all day, which is sometimes fun to do!

Boo and Sophia were so excited to have another person around to play with! Andy loves to wrestle with them and the enjoy it just as much!

Sunday, I said goodbye 😦  But I will be seeing him in a few weeks for a wedding we’re going to, so I have that to look forward to!

Dinner

Dinner last night was one of my favorite meals: PIZZA (hence the blog title!).  I made the pizza using $0.50 dough mix that I get at Walmart.  All you do is add hot water to the dough mix, form it into a ball and let it rest for 5 minutes, then press it into a pan, add toppings and bake! It’s so simple!

Dough Mix from Walmart

Add 1/2 c of hot water to the mix.   Mix together with a fork until it starts combining.  With floured fingers, from into a ball and let rest for 5 minutes

Dough Mix

Formed into a ball…

Then place some flour onto a cutting board (or on the counter) and knead the dough a few times.  Place the dough onto a pizza pan and using your finger tips, press the dough outward, expanding the dough to the desired size

Bake the dough at 450 degrees for a few minutes then add desired toppings.   My pizza included:

  • Pizza sauce
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Taco blend cheese
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Garlic powder
  • Oregano
  • Red pepper Flakes

Pizza dough + Sauce + Canned Tomatoes

Fresh tomatoes are way to expensive right now and canned tomatoes work quite well on pizza!

Dough + toppings + lots o' cheese!

Bake for approximately 12 minutes at 450 degrees

Cheesey Goodness!

I polished off half of the pizza while watching “The Proposal”..cute movie!

Breakfast

This morning started out with a 2 mile walk with the dogs, which was nice and pretty uneventful.  The squirrels must have been in hiding today!

I was in an egg mood once again, and opted for my go-to breakfast of 2 eggs over easy, a whole grain english muffin, and some strawberries with coffee to drink

Monday's Breakfast

I also drank 1 liter of water, which I usually do with breakfast each day, along with my coffee.  Yep, I pee A LOT!

Workout

The Group Exercise schedule has changed at my work due to the semester coming to an end, so I no longer teach early morning classes.  I am able to do my own thing now, which is a nice change of pace.  I did a combination of weights and cardio.

I started with 30 minutes on the arc trainer followed by a quick weights circuit, which consisted of the following:

  • Bench Press
  • Lat Pull Down
  • Hamstring Curl Machine
  • Seated Cable Rows
  • Leg Extension Machine

I did it circuit style, meaning I went from one exercise to the next without any breaks.  I did 3 rounds of the circuit and did each exercise for 15 reps.  I have not lifted in over a month, so even though I took it easy, I will probably be sore tomorrow!

**Questions**

Do you lift weights?

If so, do you have a set routine?

What type of split do you do currently (example: full body, upper lower, circuit, etc)?

What is your favorite blizzard?

  1. A blizzard with oreo and reese’s?!?! I think I just cried some happy tears…

It’s probably a good thing I didn’t know that special was going on until after the fact. ha.

And homemade pizza is one of my new favorite go-to meals… I’m glad that the blogging world called to my attention how easy it can be!

    • Pizza can be so healthy, too! I had zero veggies yesterday (besides canned tomatoes), so it wasn’t the most fiber-filled pizza, but it definitely can be! 🙂

You have to try oreos with reese cups added…it’s the best combo!!

  2. I am sooooo making a pizza now!!! 😀 thanks for the idea!!

I also drink LOTS of water, and pee A LOT. Now that I’m stuck home jub hunting via internet, our TP costs have gone up 😉

YAY for having Andy with you this weekend!! Double YAY for June approaching 😉

    Questions:

Yep, I lift weights and have been done it on a consistent basis for 3 weeks/ MWF full body. I’m changing it to T and Th this week–it’s time to switch it up(getting bored). To calrify the 3 weeks–I was in a life slump and put off workouts for about a month. It’s the only time in the last 3 years I was not consistent.

Blizzards–I haven’t had areal DQ Blizzard, but if I could choose, the one one had with Oreas and Reeses would definitely be my pick!!

  3. omg its a doggie pillow! thats too cute!

as for weights, i love to do resistant/weight training. i usually do the typical routines.. arm sets with leg sets. i have ankle weights too which rock for getting strong legs and doing leg lifts.

ever since i added weight training to my exercise routine.. ive been able to run faster and build stamina!

  4. I lift weights, but I don’t have a set routine. I did at one point and then I realized I was being too analytical about it. So now 2 of the 4 classes I do a week involve weights with cardio and so I just lift weights then. My favorite blizzard would have to be chocolate chip cookie dough. However, when brownie batter was around for a limited time, that was definitely my fav!

  5. hey girl 🙂 Hope you had a great weekend with Andy!! And, I agree- I love those days where you just kind of relax & snack all day- probably some of my favorite days 🙂
So funny you were asking about weights this morning- I was talking about the same thing on my blog 🙂 I’m trying to get more ideas for new strength training routines- I do SO much cardio I think my body would definitely benefit from some new weight training. I try to do some kind of weight training at least 5 x a week- but it’s usually for a short period of time- like 20 minute…so I would like to get into a routine where I do it for like an hour or so- I hear it’s SO good for you.

  6. We got that blizzard deal last night. So good!!!

I’m glad you had such a great weekend with Andy. It sounds like it was relaxing and the perfect way to really savor each other’s company. 🙂

Also, I bet it is nice to do your own thing in the gym again with the reduced teaching schedule. It looks like you had a good workout to start it off.

  7. Oreo is my favorite!

I knew you were relocating, but I didn’t know you’re in Atlanta. I’m looking to relocate back there! What a small world!

So happy you were able to spend some time with Andy!!

  8. Your weekend sounds like a lot of fun. And it’s always great to have something special to look forward to. That time will pass in no time.
    BTW I don’t eat lamb either! 🙂

  9. Oops, sorry for double replies, forgot to answer your questions:
Yes, I lift weights, 3 x week, whole body – the only difference in those 3 workouts is load, reps and how many sets. I do one heavy, one medium and one circuit style training a week.
I don’t think I have ever had blizzard in my life.. I know, shocking. Where can I buy those? 🙂

  10. I am depressed that I am older than the Blizzard!

We have a DQ right up the hill from us. It is hard to resist everday!!

  11. Your pizza looks delicious, too! For some reason, I never make pizza with red sauce. I also want something different. Maybe next time, I will make more of a classic pizza. I lift weights every other day and do a full body circuit. 3 sets that last about 10 minutes each. I love it, but I need something different soon! My favorite blizzard? Peanut butter cup. Definitely!

  12. YUM pizza! looks like the dogs like Andy just as much as you do! WHoohoo!!

I love me some oreo blizzards!
